Credential Progress Report

Submitted by:

Maureen T. Mulroy, Ph. D.

Chair of CT-PEN

What's Been Happening

Since our annual conference in May, members of the CT-PEN Leadership team have been forging ahead with the next phase of the credential plan outlining the steps to be taken to make our statewide parenting educator credential a reality!

So far we have

        established a Credential Advisory Board (CAB) <first meeting is October 23rd >;

        arranged for Charter Oak College to accept and process applications for the award of the parenting educator credential; and,

         done some preliminary work to be used by the 4 working groups that will be charged with the task of developing policies and procedures governing the award of the parenting educator credential.

The establishment of these 4 Working Groups marks the beginning of Stage 2 of the credential process writing the policies and procedures that will govern the implementation, application, and award of the parenting educator credential by Charter Oak College starting October 2009.

About the Work Groups

The Work Groups will be charged with developing clear guidelines for members to follow pertaining to

v         professional ethics and activities of a parenting educator;

v         applying college level courses, majors, and degrees toward a Level 2, 3 and 4 parenting educator credential;

v         ongoing NEPEM/NEPEF-based curricular and professional development training; and,

v         applying for and receiving a parenting educator credential.

Each of the four Working Groups will:

        consist of 6-8 members representing different parenting education stakeholders;

        have a member of the CT-PEN Leadership Team participating and facilitating the work of the group;

        post progressive reports on the CT-PEN website; and will

        develop a plan of action and timeline leading to the development of policies and procedures pertaining to the credential.

We Need Your Help and Support

There are many ways you can help us during this next phase of the credential process.  You can

*    Join one of the following Work Groups:

o       Code of Ethics

o       Vetting Curricula & Workshops

o       Formal Education Pathways

o       Application Packet & Processes.

*    Offer meeting space for one of the Work Groups.

*    Keep current by reading the posted Progress Reports.

*    Join one of the CT-PEN Regional Groups

o       and provide us with feedback about the policies and procedures as they are developed and shared with the membership.

Finally, because members of the Leadership Team will be heavily engaged in facilitating and guiding the development of the next phase of the credential process, we need help planning the 2009 Spring Conference.  Please volunteer to serve on the conference planning team, now!

Don't hesitate emailing or phoning any one of the members of the Leadership Team and let us know how we can help each other over the course of this year.

The Leadership Team is comprised of

Maureen Mulroy, Chair

Elizabeth Shack, Vice-Chair

Kimberly Martini-Carvell, Secretary

Lynn Webber, Treasurer

Ginny Molleur, Webmaster

Regional Group Leaders =  Patty Berky, Diana Thibodeau, Suzanne Wallace, Alice Robinson, Ruth Freeman, Melinda Tyler, and Sharyn Cooke.
